Noah's Sporting Success

Year 9 student Noah Harper recently attended the NSW AFL carnival representing the CCC Team. This carnival is designed to showcase the best AFL talent in NSW across the various regions and schools. During the carnival Noah played mostly in the Centre Half Back position, with the occasional change into Full Forward, managing to kick one goal in the latter.

He played two games of footy across the day. Competing against the Combined Independent Schools and Combined High Schools (public) teams. Unfortunately, his team was unable to secure a win for the day.

Noah explained that he was just keen to get out there and play AFL along with meeting new people. He said the level of competition was excellent and it was just an experience to play against some of the best players in the State.

Despite his team not winning a game, Noah clearly showed form in front of the coaches and was selected to play for the Combined NSW High School team that would usually go on to compete at the National Carnival. Sadly, due to potential COVID restrictions a decision was made earlier this year that the carnival would not go ahead. Noah explained that it is disappointing to miss out on the carnival and the trip to Darwin, he said that usually there are AFL scouts present and current AFL players go to the event and speak to all of the competitors and explain what is needed to make it in the system.

Noah regularly represents the school in most sports and has also achieved success outside the school for cricket. Noah followed in the footsteps of previous St Anne’s student Joe Morton, who was the most recent National competitor for the school, also making it away for AFL.
